What is Young Life?

Introducing adolescents to Jesus Christ and helping them grow in their faith.

In 1941, a youth pastor named Jim Rayburn founded the ministry of Young Life in Texas. Over the next 75 years, it has grown to be in all 50 states, over 100 countries, own 30+ camps, and be part of more than 2 million kids reached with the good news of Jesus in 2015/16 alone. Young Life continues to see lives impacted in lasting ways!

Young Life is for ANY student. We know that this is a crucial time in the lives of adolescents; figuring out who they are, what lies ahead, and pursuing answers to some of life’s big questions. We know the importance of loving adults (SFYL) coming alongside students during this time, it can have a dramatic impact.

The 4 C’s - How Young Life accomplishes its mission

Contact Work - Going to kids, wherever they're at

Because kids don’t care how much you know till they know how much you care, Young Life leaders show they care by going where kids are, meeting them as they are, and believing in who they can be. This looks like grabbing coffee together, going to sporting events, playing disc golf, or attending choir concerts - and so much more. In any way, leaders work to build friendships with students by spending time with them, showing them that they truly care about them.

Club - Party with a purpose
Up to 90 kids from LHS, RHS, WHS, & New Tech gather together each Monday night to have fun, build relationships, & hear about Jesus. We do mixers in which kids make human bunkbeds, sing songs that are on the radio, participate in skits with dead fish, play games of all sorts, and share about real life. Jim Rayburn, founder of Young Life, said, "it is a crime to bore anyone with the gospel," so, Monday nights are never boring!

Campaigners - Time to question, learn, and grow
20-45 kids from LHS, RHS, & WHS come together weekly in coffee shops around Sioux Falls. Why? To go deeper into what life with Jesus looks like alongside their leaders and friends.

Camp- The best week of their life

Camping is another thing that Young Life does so well. This is a week of growing relationships and high amounts of fun. This tangible experience is all paired with the chance to hear the greatest story ever told.

We also have a yearly backpacking trip that allows students to get out into the physical demands of the mountains; while getting to know Jesus, themselves, and others even more deeply.

As you experience Young Life, we hope you will decide that you were made to get involved. To learn more, contact Andrew Carmany at 507-829-5774, email andrew.carmany@gmail.com, or visit younglife.org.
